sensex-nifty
The Sensex and the Nifty ended a 90-minute session flat, after trading in a range. The Sensex ended with gains of 21 points, while the Nifty was up 1.7 points.

Special trading sessions are largely characterised by low volumes and absence of institutional investors including FIIs and DIIs.

Among the stocks that saw some buying interest were the technology stocks including the likes of HCL Tech and TCS. Hindalco lost ground after worries over credit rating of its subsidiary, Novelis.

Mahindra and Mahindra, BPCL and IDFC were the other notable gainers. Stocks like Dr Reddy's and Bank of Baroda lost ground.

The Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange conducted a special live trading as the NSE was testing its software.

Trading took place between 11.15 am to 12.45 pm.

The exchanges have also informed that shares purchased for delivery on Friday would not be permitted for sale during the special session.
