Sensex, Nifty end flat; Oil and gas stocks fall on gas pricing worries
The Sensex and the Nifty ended the day flat as oil and gas pulled indices lower. The Sensex closed the day lower by 12 points (provisional), while the Nifty ended the day higher by 6 points.

Among the top losers in trade were stocks from the oil and gas sector with Reliance Industries dropping almost three per cent, while ONGC fell two per cent.

 

Other stocks that dropped in trade were Sesa Sterlite, Dr Reddy's and Sun Pharma. Software stocks were the other set of stocks that were weak in trade with Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Tech and Wipro among the losers.

 

Top Nifty gainers in trade today were Bharat Heavy Electricals which jumped four per cent, while other notable gainers were DLF, Power Grid, Lupin Laboratories, Larsen and Toubro and Hero Motor Corp.

Shares in ICICI Bank rallied to hit a fresh 52-week high in trade. The Bank Nifty, however, did not see any gains and ended the day flat. Notable gainers from the banking space were Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India.

Ashok Leyland surged 4.4 per cent in trade and was the top gainer from the auto space. FMCG stocks continued to see buying interest with ITC and Hindustan Unilever among the gainers.

Meanwhile, markets in Asia ended the day marginally lower with the Jakarta Composite and the Singapore's Strait Times posting losses.
