Markets ended the day higher even as technology stocks continued to exhibit a weakish trend in trade. The Sensex ended the day with gains of 135 points, closing at a new record of 22,764.83 points, while the Nifty rallied 38 points in trade to cxlose at a record of 6817.65 points.

Among the top losers in trade were the tech stocks led by losses in Wipro and Infosys. TCS ended the day almost little changed over the previous week's level.

Other Nifty stocks that fell in trade were Hindustan Unilever and ITC. Among the Nifty stocks that rallied were once again the banking space, including the likes of ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank.

However, HDFC Bank ended the day lower on the FII limit cap worries in the stock. PSU banking stocks had a great session in trade with notable gainers being Bank of India and Canara Bank.

Shares in Voltas were in the limelight after its AC brand "Breeze" was reported to have toppled other manufacturers as the number one AC brand.

Shares in Liberty Shoes' on the other hand rallied after its Q4 net profit jumped to Rs 4.3 crore versus Rs 0.97 crore.

Top Nifty gainers apart from banking names were Larsen and Toubro, Mahindra and Mahindra and Bharat Petroleum Corporation.

Reliance which reported Q4 numbers that were in line with estimates also ended the day higher. Meanwhile, markets in Asia ended the day mixed with the Chinese Shanghai falling on weak economic data, while the Hang Sang and the Strait Times recording gains.
