Sensex, Nifty end higher; await election result outcome

Among the Sensex gainers in trade were Gas Authority of India, Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra and Mahindra and Sun Pharma.
Bajaj Auto ended the day lower after its profits came in lower than expectations. Bank of Baroda which has had a stellar rally in the last few weeks ended almost three per cent lower.
Nifty stocks that lost ground in trade were ICICI Bank, NMDC and Coal India. Tata Steel ended the day two per cent higher after the company reported better than expected results. The stock hit a 52-week high in trade.
Select mid cap stocks which have had a phenomenal rally in the last few days ended the day with losses on profit booking. IFCI, Karnataka Bank, GMR and Jain Irrigation were some of the stocks that saw losses in trade.
Power sector stocks were in the limelight today with NTPC, Tata Power and Power Grid all ending the day with significant gains.
Realty stocks saw some deep gashes with Indiabulls, D B Realty and Unitech being among the losers. Asian Paints also ended the day with losses after the company's quarterly results did not match expectations.
Meanwhile, Asian stocks ended the day mostly lower after weak closings in the US.
