Sensex, Nifty end lower even as global markets remain buoyant
The Sensex ended the day lower by 44 points at 25,201 points, while the Nifty ended the day lower by 17.50 points. Among the gainers in trade were Dr Reddy's, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hindalco and ITC. One sector that outperformed the markets was the IT pack with Infosys, TCS and Wipro among the gainers.
Oil and gas stocks added pressure on the indices today with ONGC dropping a huge 5 per cent, while Reliance fell more than 2.5 per cent.
The Mid cap index saw a more than one per cent cut with stocks like Hindustan Zinc, HPCL and Voltas seeing huge losses.
Metal stocks came in for some selling pressure with Jindal Stainless and National Aluminium ending the day lower.
Shares in Hanung Toys rallied after the company said that the CDR cell approved debt recast package of company.
Capital goods major, Crompton Greaves was trading lower after reports that the company will put land parcel worth Rs 1400 crore up for sale.
Realty stocks which had rallied significantly in the last few trading sessions ended the day flat. However, D B Realty rallied a huge 5 per cent on sudden investor interest in the stock.
Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading higher after the S&P 500 hit a new record on positive comments from the US Fed with regards to interest rates.
