Sensex, Nifty end flat; Bhel rallies
Shares in Maruti Suzuki hit a new 52-week high of Rs 1805 on the National Stock Exchange, after an upgrade by a foreign brokerage firm.
Metal stocks dropped sharply in trade after a ruling by the Honourable Supreme Court on coal block allocation. Hindalco lost 6 per cent, while JSW Steel fell 7 per cent in trade.
Mid cap stocks also saw some selling pressure with Adani Power, IFCI, NHPC, Power Grid, Reliance Communications and Andhra Bank. However, select stocks like CESC and GMR Infra rallied from the mid cap space.
Select PSU banking stocks dropped in trade with Union Bank of India and IOB being among the losers. Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading sharply higher, while most of Asia ended the day with gains.
