Rupee breaches 61 mark; drops 7 paise in early trade

The rupee breached the 61 mark for the first time in weeks, as a bearish trend dragged the currency lower by seven paise against the dollar at 61.01.

The currency had closed at 60.94 against the dollar on Thursday. Today's drop means the currency has breached the 61 levels after several weeks. This is despite staggering dollar inflows from foreign funds.

The rupee was one of the worst performing currencies last year, but has now become the best performing, after climbing from a historic low of 68.86 against the dollar in August last year. check currency rates here
