Sensex, Nifty end flat; European stocks rally on “no” vote in Scotland
The Sensex closed the day lower by 21 points, while the Nifty closed without change. Leading the set of gainers from the Nifty were shares of TCS, HDFC and Maruti.
Shares that lost ground apart from FMCG stocks were Hero Motor Corp, Mahindra and Mahindra and Larsen and Toubro.
Mid cap stocks also saw some losses with stocks like Ashok Leyland, Crompton Greaves and IDBI Bank among the losers.
India Cements was a top gainer from among the Mid cap stocks with the shares surging a huge 8 per cent in trade.
Tata Steel ended the day higher after a Moody's upgrade on the stock. Cipla on the other hand gained ground after grant of Salix Pharma rights to Rifaximin complex patents.
Meanwhile, markets across Asia ended the day higher with the Japanese Nikkei seeing substantial gains. Other markets that rallied were the Hong Kong's Hang Sang and the Singapore's Strait Times.
