Rupee opens strong at 61.12 to the dollar

The rupee opened the day strong against the dollar at 61.12, a gain of 28 paise over Wednesday's close. The currency had earlier closed at 61.40 to the dollar.

Global cues were remarkably strong after the US Federal Reserve Minutes were released. No hints of any interest rate hikes anytime soon was welcomed by global markets, which also pushed the rupee higher against the dollar in early trade.

Dealers say the rupee would continue to trade in a range and could breach the 61 levels mark in intra day trade.
