Rupee surges on strong global cues, assembly election results

The rupee opened the day strong at 61.24 to the dollar surging 20 paise in early trade on the back of strong showing by the BJP in state elections and hopes that this would push the reforms process.

Global cues were also robust, which pushed the currency higher against the dollar.

Dealers say the currency may gain some momentum in the next few days ahead of the Diwali Holidays and may stabilize thereafter.
