Sensex, Nifty Open Higher; ITC, Sun Pharma Rally

Stock markets began the week on a bullish note once again with the Sensex and the Nifty gaining ground in trade once again on strong global cues.

The Sensex ended the day with gains of 55 points, while the Nifty was up 12 points in Trade. Heavyweight, ITC was the leading gainer, while another FMCG, Hindustan Unilever joined the stock higher.

However, Sun Pharma was the top gainer in trade with the stock up almost 4 per cent on buying interest. Nifty stocks that were subdued and saw losses were TCS, Tata Steel and ONGC.

Larsen continued to see some selling pressure after its results lagged estimates. Select mid cap stocks also saw some selling pressure with Arvind, Havells and NHPC among the losers.

PSU banking stocks continued to see buying interest despite worries over non performing assets. Oriental Bank, Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India saw buying interest.

Meanwhile, Asian markets were trading higher led by gains in the Shanghai Composite.
