The rupee opened the day marginally strong after seeing a sharp drop of 40 paise on Thursday on month-end demand. The currency was last trading at 61.79 against the dollar as against Thursday's close of 61.86.

The rupee is expected to continue to show volatility and much would now depend on the government's forthcoming budget on which most analysts are very bullish.

Meanwhile, the dollar strength was seen against a basket of currencies, even as the US Dow Jones saw some recovery.
