Sensex, Nifty End Higher As Bank Stocks Recover
The Sensex and the Nifty ended the day higher after having fallen sharply on Wednesday on a last 30 minute recovery.
The Sensex ended the day with gains of 68 points, while the Nifty closed the day higher by 15 points. Leading the set of losers from the Nifty were stocks from the metal space with Hindalco and NMDC among the losers.
Shares in Hindustan Unilever gained after the company raised the prices of certain products.
Shares in Pipavav Defense fell sharply after Reliance Infrastructure acquired a 18 per cent stake in the company.
Software maker Mastek saw heavy buying after the company said it will consider demerger of insurance products & services business of Mastek to Minefields Computers today.
Adani Power on the other hand gained ground after the company won the Jitpur coal block at Rs 302/tonne in forward bidding.
From the mid cap space Astra Zeneca and Elclerx were the top gainers.
Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading with gains, while most of Asia ended mixed. Indian markets would be closed on Friday on account of Holi.
