The Employees Provident Fund Organistion (EPFO) would invest money in the equity markets. According to a PTI report the Labour Ministry has allowed investing a part of retirement fund body EPFO's incremental corpus in equity market in the form of exchange-traded funds, Central Provident Fund Commissioner K K Jalan said.
There has long been a tussle over whether the EPFI should invest money in the equity market given the huge risk involved.
"Presently CBT has decided we will go only for ETF," Jalan said, adding around Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 7,500 crore of the incremental corpus will be invested in ETF this year.
The exposure is not very much considering the huge corpus the EPFO has. It could just be the beginning before the body increases its exposure.
