Benchmark indices ended the day flat even as the last 30 minutes turned volatile with the Sensex moving between gains and losses.

Most of the indices including the European indices were weak in trade and Asia closed mostly lower. The Sensex ended the day with losses of 12 points, while the Nifty closed 3 points lower.

Tata Motors fell 4 per cent, after a good rally seen in the last few trading sessions. The company reported flat vehicle sales growth for the month of Aug 2015.

Shares in Amtek Auto surged 50 per cent after the promoters decided to infuse fresh capital into the company.

Wonder La also gained ground after the company inked a deal with the Government of Tamil Nadu for setting up an amusement park.

Infosys saw good buying support after the company announced a partnership with the Association of Tennis Professionals.

Mid cap stocks also ended the day with gains with stocks like Crisil and Marico jumping a huge 3 per cent in trade.

Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading with losses, while most of Asia closed the day lower.
