The Sensex ended the day higher by 258 points, while the Nifty closed up by 70 points. On the global front, Asian markets ended the day on a positive note ahead U.S. Federal Reserve meet.

Meanwhile, European counters were firm with CAC, DAX and FTSE all were trading in green.

Stock ended the day at Rs 235, higher by 0.67 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday high of Rs 241 during the trade.

The Anil Agarwal-led natural resources firm Vedanta Ltd. on Tuesday said it has received approvals from both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the NSE on the company's proposal to merge with its hydrocarbons subsidiary Cairn India, reports PTI.

Stock ended the day at Rs 98.95, higher by 2.12 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday high of Rs 100.90 during the trade.

The company said that it has made partial disinvestment to the extent of 1.5 percent of its stake in National Stock Exchange (NSE) i.e. 6,75,000 equity shares, to certain buyer on September 15.

Stock ended the day at Rs20.80, lower by 0.24 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday low of Rs 20.60 and high of Rs 21.30 during the trade.
