Sensex Trades Higher; Tech Stocks Gain

Benchmark indices opened the day higher in trade, even as global markets were having a quiet session in trade. European and US indices closed almost flat with a slight negative bias on Tuesday.

The Sensex was trading with gains of 59 points, while the Nifty was up 10 points in trade. Shares in Hero Motor Corp gained ground following Q2 numbers that matched estimates. The stock was up 1.5 per cent in trade.

Biocon also jumped after the company reported an almost 2 fold jump in net profits. Among the top Nifty gainers in trade were Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Auto.

Wipro was trading higher ahead of its results to be declared later today. Notable Nifty gainers in trade were Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Auto.

Cement major, ACC was down after reporting a drop of almost 40 per cent in its consolidated net profit. The stock was last trading at Rs 1364 on the NSE.

Banking stocks were having a flat day in trade, though Federal Bank fell a huge 8 per cent, following a poor set of results.

Midcap shares saw good buying support with Cadilla Health and Sanofi among the top gainers from the space.

Meanwhile, most of Asia was trading with gains. The Japanese Nikkei and the Straits Times were seeing gains, while the Hang Sang lost ground.
