The 30-share benchmark index ended the trade at 23554.12, higher by 568 points, while the NSE Nifty was at 7162.95, up by 182 points.

On the global front, most Asian markets ended in the green, except China"s Shanghai Composite.

Shares of Indian Oil Corporation surged by 10 per cent today after the company's net profit in October-December came in at Rs 3,056.86 crore as against a net loss of Rs 2,636.80 crore in the previous fiscal, reports PTI.

The stock ended the day at Rs 388, higher by 6.55 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday high at Rs 401 during the trade.

Shares of Bank of Baroda rose despite the highest-ever quarterly loss as it remained confident of posting a "reasonable level" of profit next fiscal.

The stock ended the day at Rs 140, higher by 22.61 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday high at Rs 142 during the trade.

Jain Irrigation has said that it has signed a MoU with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd and Maharashtra Government for Project "Orange Unnati", at the commencement of the 'Make in India Week' in Mumbai.

The stock ended the day at Rs 53.345 higher by 0.94 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday high at Rs 55.30 during the trade.

Banking Stocks

Shares in banking stocks saw a spectacular rally, after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley promised to speed-up reforms in the PSU banking space.

Vedanta is planning to commission an aluminium park in Odisha, a move that will help the state become the aluminium hub of the world. Vedanta today said it will ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government to set up the aluminium park across 240 acres of land in Jharsuguda,as per PTI reports.

The stock ended the day at Rs 74, higher by 16.90 per cent on BSE. It touched an intraday high at Rs 75.85 during the trade.
