Sensex Ends the Day Flat; Global Cues Quiet

Sensex ended the day marginally higher, with the markets trading in a range for most of the day, as global markets remained quiet.

Today's steady trade comes on the back of a huge carnage seen on Monday. Indian markets were closed for trade on Tuesday, for a festive holiday. European stocks were also steady in trade, after some volatile movement seen in the first two trading sessions.

The Sensex ended the day higher by 18 points, while the Nifty closed the day higher by 11 points.

Oil prices also gained ground, after falling as much as three per cent in the previous session, which helped steady sentiments.

Reliance Capital was the star in trade, jumping as much as 8 per cent, after the company said that it will list its subsidiary.

Coal India was the top loser in trade, after the company reported a drop of in its net profits. The stock ended the day almost 2 per cent lower.

HCC, which had seen a spectacular rally in trade, in the last few trading sessions, gained another 4 per cent on bagging an order.

TCS, was the top loser among the Nifty stocks, as select IT stocks continued to see some selling pressure.

Meanwhile, the rupee was last trading at 66.99 to the US dollar.
