Markets Open Higher As Global Cues Remain Strong

Sensex opened the day strong on the back of a solid global rally.

Indian benchmark indices opened the day higher, as global markets rallied. The Dow Jones hit a new record high pushing most Asian markets higher. The Sensex had rallied a staggering 444 points on Thursday and the momentum continued.

The Dow Jones rallied once again to fresh closing highs, as investors were optimistic that there would be fresh stimulus from Trump and lower corporate taxes. In Europe to markets rallied on Thursday after the European Central Bank extended its bond buying programme.

The Sensex was trading with gains of 26 points, while the Nifty gained 5 points in trade.

Leading the set of winners were some of the banking stocks, which did not participate in the rally on Thursday. State Bank of India and ICICI Bank were both among the gainers in trade.

IT stocks which had a good trading session on Thursday continued to see some buying support. Infosys was trading higher by one per cent, while Infosys and Wipro were among the other gainers.

Shares in Puravankara jumped after the company Q2 net profit was up 55.9 percent. The stock was trading higher by 12 per cent. Claris Lifesciences also saw its share price rally after the company reported a good set of quarterly numbers.

Meanwhile, the rupee opened at 67.56 to the dollar.
