Benchmark indices were trading lower ahead of the Economic Survey to be presented in Parlianment later today. Stocks were largely down also after the US markets saw its biggest single day decline on Monday, following worries over the executive orders by US President Donald Trump.

The Sensex was trading with losses of 107 points, while the NIfty was down 36 points in trade. Leading the set of gainers from the Nifty was Idea Cellular whose shares jumped 7 per cent, following reports of a merger with Vodafone. Shares in Coal India was the biggest loser in trade and dropped 3 per cent. Tech Mahindra, which reported a good set of numbers was up one per cent in trade. Among the gainers in trade today were Bharti Airtel and Ultratech Cement.

Meanwhile, most Asian markets were trading lower, following big losses in the US.
