Sensex, Nifty Hit Fresh Record Highs
Both the top benchmark indices in India, the Sensex and the Nifty scaled new highs in trade today.
Benchmark indices, the Sensex and the Nifty today hit another record with the Sensex jumping 181 points to a new all-time intra-day high of 30,503 points and the Nifty surging to 9,482, points with foreign funds continuing to buy into stocks, on a stronger rupee.
Tata Steel was trading higher as investors increased their exposure ahead of its quarterly numbers due later in the day and on the government's decision to impose anti-dumping duty on some steel products.
Other gainers from the indices were Bharti Airtel (2.80 per cent), Reliance (1.90 per cent), Tata Consultancy (1.45 per cent) and Dr Reddy's. In Asia, the Japanese Nikkei gained 0.03 per cent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.36 per cent in early trade today. Zee, Hindalco and Bank of Baroda were among the top Nifty losers in trade.
Meanwhile, the rupee was trading at 64.23 to the dollar.
