Unlinked PAN and Aadhaar Does Not Make Your PAN Invalid from July 1

The linking of PAN and aadhaar has been mandated to check any financial loopholes in the system, but the call has created utter confusion.

With just a day left for the linking of PAN and Aadhaar, concerns have seen to rise among both the tax-payer and non-taxpayer category as government mandated the linking of the two identities for both the category. The income tax site is seen to crash on the back of heightened access of the site to link PAN and Aadhaar.

There has been utter confusion on the issue and people are of the general assumption that their PAN would be rendered invalid in case they do not link PAN and Aadhaar by July1. And as notified to the leading business daily, Sushil Chandra, chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said, "There is no need for any panic. PAN will not become invalid after June 30".

The board will notify a date later on when PAN without Aadhaar will not be valid, he said.
As per the Section 139 139AA, Income-tax Act, : "Every person who has been allotted permanent account number as on the 1st day of July, 2017, and who is eligible to obtain Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number to such authority in such form and manner as may be prescribed, on or before a date to be notified by the Central Government in the Official Gazette: Provided that in case of failure to intimate the Aadhaar number, the permanent account number allotted to the person shall be deemed to be invalid and the other provisions of this Act shall apply, as if the person had not applied for allotment of permanent account number."

So, without resorting to any panic, you still can link PAN and Aadhaar.
