To render GST simple as well as to enable consumers cross-check accurate tax rates across goods and services under the newly rolled out GST regime, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley together with CBEC officials on Friday launched a mobile app called the GST Rates Finder.
The 'GST Rates Finder' part has also been incorporated on the dedicated online GST portal, cbec-gst.gov.in, so that taxpayers can familiarize themselves with the appropriate GST tax rate on their supplies.
At first the application has been launched on Android and for iOS users the GST app is likely to be rolled out soon. Once downloaded on the smartphone, the app shall also be functional in offline mode.
Through a number of tweets via the official handle, the Finance Ministry said "A taxpayer can search for applicable CGST, SGST, UTGST rate and Compensation Cess on a supply. The search can be made based on description of goods or services or HSN Chapter or section or heading number. These initiatives are aimed to serve as a ready reckoner on GST rates".
How to use the GST Rates Finder App?
Currently available on the Android platform, users can download the app on their smartphones. The app would also work in offline mode and using it users can know the applicable GST rate for a good or service. For it, the user needs to enter the name or chapter heading of the good or service. And thereafter the search will process and list all the goods and services that fall under the search criterion specified in the search box.
