After the date for filing ITR got extension by another 5 days to August 5, the government also extended the date for linking PAN and aadhaar to August 31. Earlier on Monday, revenue secretary, Hasmukh Adhia said that PAN shall be cancelled if not linked with Aadhaar within the provided timeline. In respect of the deadline, he put forth that the date shall be announced shortly.
Currently those who do not resort to linking PAN and Aadhaar by August 31 shall not be able to file returns. Nonetheless, there is proposed no immediate risk of PAN getting cancelled. Furthermore, the ministry of Finance, says that the ITR shall not be processed it the two IDs are left unlinked.
With effect from July 1, the linking of PAN and aadhaar had been made mandatory for filing ITR.
