The MoS for Electronics and Information Technology P P Chaudhar in Lok Sabha yesterday that iindividuals Aadhaar details may require seeding with Voter Identification of a person for several electoral purposes. For it, ECI made an appeal for the details of Aadhaar of the voters to the Supreme Court such that these can be linked to the voter Id.

Chaudhary said the move shall be introduced at an appropriate time. The work for it has been started by the Commission 2 years back with the roll out of the National Electoral Roll Purification & Authentication Programme (NERPAP) for the linking of Aadhaar to their database.

Nonetheless an interim order has been passed by the SC which states that "The unique identification number or the Aadhaar card will not be used by the respondents for any purpose other than the PDS scheme and in particular for the purpose of distribution of foodgrains, etc. and cooking fuel such as kerosene."

To curb instances of money laundering, tax evasion, black money hoarding, government has also called for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with PAN, online income tax filing from July 1 this year. There were also reports that it is further try to contain illicit real estate transaction and hence is further upon putting an impetus to link aadhaar even with property deals as well as driving license.
