After the date for ITR filing for the FY 2016-17 and AY 2017-18 got extended to August 5. Around the same time, there was news that PAN and Aadhaar linking should be completed by August 31.

But today in the Lok Sabha after the query in this regard was raised, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that there is no timeline decided for PAN and Aadhaar linking. But the linking of the two IDs is crucial for the processing of the ITR as confirmed by the CBDT.
For the filing of ITR only Aadhaar or its enrolment number in respect of the application made for Aadhaar can be quoted. And those of you who have filed the ITR need to hurry up and link the two IDs by at the most August 31, 2017.

Until June 28, as per data with the respective authorities, Aadhaar has been issued to over 111 crore and PAN to 25 crore individuals.
