BSNL in association with Mobikwik today unveiled its mobile wallet services to aid its over 100 million subscribers in making bill payments at the click of a button. The service that shall be available on both the smartphones as well as feature phones will also facilitate payments across 15 lakh merchant outlets.
In a statement, the state-run telecom company said that the new service of mobile wallet has been rolled out to strengthen digital payments in semi-urban as well as rural areas. The app will enable users to shop, use it for recharges, bill payments and book bus and train tickets.
Telecom Minister, Major Sinha on the launch of this co-branded wallet company said, "With this co-branded wallet, the ease of payment will be extended to all the customers while equally strengthening financial inclusion in the rural hinterlands, which often get neglected". On its reach and network, the telecom giant claimed that it is perhaps the largest wallet by any of the player in the industry.
Anupam Srivastava, Chairman of BSNL said that the mobile wallet of the company developed by Mobikwik will enable its customers to seamlessly transact across several merchants.
