Systematic Investment Plans have continued to lure investors and per as the latest AMFI data, the mutual funds in India currently have over 1.52 crore SIP accounts through which they make regular investments. It is suggested that the industry in the FY 2017-18 has added as many as 8.23 lakh accounts per month on an average basis. The average size of the SIP account is Rs. 3250 per account.
The investment avenue allows small investments of as low as Rs. 500 to be made at period intervals and provides the advantage of power of compounding and rupee cost averaging. It is also gaining popularity with Indian investors as a discipline investment routine is set with it and also market timing and volatility is not to be worried with this investment.
In the FY 2016-17, a total of Rs. 43,921 crore was collected via SIP. SIP allows investors to earn reasonably from their investments and offset the highs and lows in the stock markets. So, a SIP investor should primarily focus on keeping their investments intact for long term.
