The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is presently working on a tax app named My Pay which shall enable tax payments via online banking, debit or credit card transactions. Also, as reported in the leading daily, taxpayers will be able to clear their outstanding tax dues using payment apps such as UPI and other digital wallets. The move will further augment the economy's cashless and digital drive.
My Pay tax-related app will feature all tax-related issues and the CBDT will use it as a platform for communicating with taxpayers.
Similar move to create a more-friendly app based payment facility for customs duty and baggage payments has been asked of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). As of now, electronic payment for over Rs. 1 lakh has been allowed by the CBEC and as per reports a request to reduce this threshold limit has been placed with the CBEC.
The committee headed by Ratan Watal has been set up for boosting digital economy or payments system in the country.
