August WPI Rises To 3.24% With Spike in Vegetable And Food Article Prices
Vegetable and food article prices have pushed inflation numbers at wholesale level higher.
An upward push in the price of vegetable prices and food articles has led the WPI index to four month peak figures of 3.24%.. At the same time, when other food articles are witnessing a price rise, pulses due to their low supply are falling in prices.
The figure was lower for the month of July and stood ar 1.88% from the current levels. The s rindecx is a measure of the wholesale inflation rate and marks the price movement in respect of bulk purchases by dealers and traders and is a reflection of the prices at the shop level.
Vegetable index registered an high of 8.6%, food articles of 5.75% against July numbers of 2.15%. Food inflation is 4.41% in comparison to 2.15% in July. Non-food articles witnessed a growth in prices by 1.8% while a negative data of -6.32% in July. The fuel and power inflation number registered a growth of 9.99% in comparison to 4.37% in July.
