Banks To Provide Improved Facilities For Senior Citizens And Differently Abled: RBI

As there were rising concerns that senior citizens and differently abled individuals were being discouraged to avail banking facilities, RBI has come with a notification in this regard.

In its bi-monthly monetary policy statement issued today, RBI in the best interests of senior citizens and differently abled individuals, has asked banks to improve its service offerings for both the customer segments. The apex body in this regard will issue detailed and necessary instructions to banks later this month.

On rising concerns, that these customer segments were being refused certain services by some of the banks, RBI after due consideration has come up with the thought. Also, banking ombudsmen has been advised to address such issues being raised by senior citizens and differently abled persons.

In its statement the RBI said, "It has been reported that banks are discouraging or turning away senior citizens and differently abled persons from availing banking facilities in branches". So to counter the issue the banker to the bank is of the view which is well refelected in the MPC statement which said, "Notwithstanding the need to push digital transactions and use of ATMs, it is imperative to be sensitive to the requirements of senior citizens and differently abled persons."
