Earlier CPI inflation remained flat with no changes reported for the month of September , now with WPI inflation out for the month, the barometer has gone down from earlier 3.24% to 2.6% on the back of cooling prices both in food as well as fuel prices.

WPI measures change in price at the wholeseller level and reflects price trends at shop level.

Food inflation denoting changes in food prices fell to 1.99%, vegetable prices also dropped to 15.48% as against 44.91% a month ago. Power and fuel inflation also dropped to 9.01%

Primary articles inflation accounting for over 20% of the WPI index also dropped in value to 0.15% in the last month. The overall inflation currently stands lower than the rate of 4% estimated by the RBI on the medium term basis.
