In the new subscription period beginning Monday until Wednesday, price for SGB has been fixed at Rs. 2964 per gram. The settlement is made the next week with the issue of the certificate for the same.

Other than the usual price appreciation, users will be able to lock in a sure shot annual interest rate of 2.5% for 8 years payable half-yearly.
Capital gains tax on SGBs is exempt while the interest earned is taxable as per the Income tax slab while indexation benefits are also offerd in case redemption in the instrument is made at a later time.
