New Bank Account Can Be Opened Without Aadhaar

The opening of new bank accounts that until now required you to produce both PAN and Aadhaar for KYC procedure is relaxed as individuals can now open it without aadhaar.

After the Supreme Court extended the Aadhaar linking deadline for various financial services and welfare schemes to March 31, 2018; the order by Justice Chandrachud says that an individual can open a new bank account without aadhaar but needs to provide a proof that he or she has applied for unique biometric-enabled Aadhaar ID.

The deadline to link mobile services with Aadhaar has also been extended to March 31 by a constitution bench of five judges. Earlier the government extended the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar also to March 31, 2018.

As many as 1.17 billion Indians already have the 12-digit unique ID and still many need to enroll for it. In accordance with the UIDAI's All India District Saturation Report, Assam has the least number of aadhaar subscribers with only 18,15,118 people in hold of aadhaar ID out of the state's total population of 3,11,69,272. More so, five states that top the list with least aadhaar subscribers are from the North Eastern region with Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland in second, third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.
