Until now, domestic air travellers on cancellation of the cheap air ticket were charged flat sum of Rs. 3000. But after Jayant Sinha, Civil Aviation minister made a call in this regard and asserted these charges to be very high, such high fee is being dropped.

Indian air carrier say that the cancellation charges will be Rs. 3000 or base fare combined with fuel surcharge per air traveller, whichever is lower. So, for air tickets with base fare and fuel surcharge over Rs. 3000, flyers will continue to pay Rs. 3000 as cancellation charges.

Many a times, air travellers take advantage of price differential in air tickets by booking in advance that at a later time proves to be expensive for them in case they happen to cancel the ticket due to some reason.

This policy per se cancellation charges is now being overhauled as per the rules of Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA.
