The new week began on a bullish note for the markets with the Sensex and the Nifty both hitting new record highs.

The Sensex ended the day with gains of 198 points at 34,352 points on the index, which was a new lifetime high. The Nifty on the other hand was up 64 points at 10,623 points.

Engineering and Construction major, Larsen and Toubro touched a new 52-week high of Rs 1,310 on robust order inflows. One of the company's division bagged substantial orders from Andhra Pradesh.

Shares in Sobha Developers too surged after bookings at the company surged 90 per cent. Nifty stocks that gained momentum apart from L&T were Coal India and HDFC. However, Bharti Airtel was the ttop loser dropping 4 per cent.

The healthcare sector and the telecom sector stocks were seeing poor sentiments.

Shares of the Hyderabad-based construction company GVK rose as much as 5.5 percent to Rs 21.20 after its signed concession agreement for Navi Mumbai Airport. Goa Carbon too rallied after the company reported a spectacular set of results.

Meanwhile, Asian markets were trading higher, following the positive lead from Wall Street last Friday.

Japan's Nikkei gained 1 percent, followed by China's Shanghai Composite, which was seeing gains of 0.35 percent and South Korea's Kospi (up 0.66 percent).
