The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has allowed face recognition to be used in combination of fingerprints and iris as a means of Aadhar authentication, reported PTI. This move will help individuals having issues with fingerprint and iris biometric authentication.

In its official statement today, the facility allowed the means only in the 'fusion mode', that is along with the existing authentication of fingerprints and iris. It will be available from July 1, 2018.
The new facility will also be allowed 'on need basis'.
The move comes after UIDAI's announcement to create and use Virtual IDs, a 16 digit virtual identity that can be used to avoid sharing one's Unique Identification Number. This option will be available from 1st of March, 2018. All agencies should compulsorily accept virtual authentication method from 1st of June, 2018 from their users.
