The new plan is expected to shift majority of the 2G customers of Idea, Vodafone to Jio given the features and benefits of the new offering. Also, the pricing of the company's 4G phone is highly cost-effective.

Not only more of individuals will join the Jio bandwagon but the tariff war is likely to boost the ARPU or average revenue per user the most important performance metric in the telecom sector.

Still, the 2G feature phone users account for appx 70% of overall mobile users in the country who account for nearly 50% of the total revenue for the telecom sector.
