As per hurun.net, the research and media house based in China, 437 billionaires were added into the world last year, which means more than one billionaire is added per day. China alone adds four new billionaires per week.
This week it released its Global Rich List based on results up to 31st of January 2018. There are 2,694 billionaires in the world, including131 Indians.
Some highlights
- Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffet beat Bill Gates to claim the 1st and 2nd spot respectively.
- For the first time, all of the top 10 of the Global Rich List are self made individuals.
- Pony Ma, from China, founder of Tencent is the richest Asian with $47 billion.
- Chris Larsen of Ripple is the first official billionaire from blockchain business with $5.3 billion.
- Number of Chinese billionaires grew by 210 to 819, which is 40% more than USA.
- 567 new names were added to the list.

The founder of Sun Pharmaceuticals, is down by 12 spots in the Hurun Global Rich List to share the 87th richest person position with 10 others. The net worth amounts to $15 billion.
He shares the 87th position with names like Eric Schmidt (executive chairman of Google), Dustin Moskovitz (Co-founder of facebook) and Lucas Walton (grandson of Sam Walton, founder of Walmart).
Gautam Adani
The chairman and founder of Adani Group, is 55 years old and increased his wealth by 109% last year. He shares the 98th position in the Rich List with 9 others at a networth of $14 billion dollars.
Shiv Nadar
Shiv Nadar, the founder and chairman of HCL and the Shiv Nadar Foundation is worth $14 billion. He shares the 98th position with Gautam Adani. The 72 year old industrialist held the same spot at the list last year.
