The move will benefit 8.77 lakh people in the state. The decision will help around 4.65 lakh Gujarat government employees and more than 4.12 lakh pensioners. The government will start implementing the benefits beginning from March in three monthly installments.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Nitin Patel said that the government had dedicated a separate amount for implementing the recommendations of the seventh pay commission. The same amount will be spent to enforce the arrears. He also added that "Employees will get arrears for seven months and pensioners for nine."

The Union Cabinet gave the Seventh pay commission recommendations the nod, and the benefits of the same will come into effect from January 1, 2016.

The minimum pay has been increased to Rs 18,000 per month from the existing Rs 7,000 per month following the recommendations of the pay commission.
