Every year Forbes, the American business magazine releases its lists of richest in various fields. Their wealth is valued based on the estimates of their assets- land, homes, vehicles, artwork, etc.
Forbes India too releases its lists of rich individuals in India. Here we will take a look at the 10 richest celebrities as of 22 December 2017.
10. Ranveer Singh, 32
Ranveer Singh is one of the highest paid actors in India. Apart from many box-office hits, his earnings come from 17 brand endorsements. His earnings in 2017 amounted to Rs 62.63 crore which was down by Rs 4.78 crores from his 2016 earnings of Rs 67.41 crore.
He made his debut in Bollywood with the movie "Band Baaja Baaraat" and rose to prominence between the years 2013-15.
9. Hrithik Roshan, 44
This 44 year old actor is the son of film director Rakesh Roshan. Apart from movies, Hrithik Roshan does stage performances, television shows and has launched his clothing brand HRx.
His earnings for 2017 has been Rs 63.12 crore, which is Rs 27.13 crore less than his 2016 earnings of Rs 90.25 crore.
8. M. S. Dhoni, 36
He is a recipient of Padma Shri (2009), Padma Bhushan (2018), Rajiv Ratna Khel Award (2007) and ICC ODI player of the year (2008 and 2009). Dhoni's earnings almost halved in 2017 to Rs 63.77 crore from Rs 122.48 crore.
He stepped down as the captain of the Indian cricket team in January 2017.
7. Priyanka Chopra, 35
She is the only woman to make it to the top 10 in the list of rich Indian celebrities. Priyanka Chopra is an actress, singer, producer, philanthropist and the winner of the Miss World beauty pageant in the year 2000. She has been honoured with Padma Shri in 2016 and was listed in Forbes list of World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2017.
Her earnings in 2017 was Rs 68 crore, whereas in 2016 it was Rs 76 crore.
6. Aamir Khan, 52
The Indian actor is also a producer, director and television talk show host. He set his own production house in 1999. His most successful production since date has been the movie 'Dangal.'
His earnings for 2017 had been Rs 68.75 crore.
5. Sachin Tendulkar, 44
Regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, the former cricketer has multiple investments in area other than cricket. He has stake holding in tennis and football leagues. He also co-owns restaurants, a celebrity merchandise firm and a sports stimulation venture.
His earnings for 2017 increased to Rs 82.5 crore from the previous year's Rs 58 crore.
4. Akshay Kumar, 50
He is one of the few actors with multiple film releases in a single year. He has been in the Indian film industry for over 25 year and is also does many brand endorsements. He has his own production house. He has launched TV shows and owns a team in the World Kabbadi League.
His earnings however saw a sharp decrease in 2017. It went down Rs 98.25 crore in 2017 from Rs 203.02 crore in 2016.
3. Virat Kohli, 29
The current captain of the Indian cricket team made a Rs 100.72 crores in the year 2017. Apart from cricket, he co-owns teams in football, tennis and wrestling in various leagues. In addition he has other business ventures and over 20 brand endorsements.
2. Shah Rukh Khan, 52
He made to the second spot for the second consecutive year in the Forbes list of richest celebrities in India. The "King of Bollywood" made an earning of Rs 170.5 crore in 2017, which is Rs 51.25 crore less his previous year's earning of Rs 221.75 crore.
He is the co-chairman of the production company Red Chillies Entertainment and co-owner of the IPL Team, Kolkata Knight Riders. He also hosts television shows and does stage performances. He has won multiple film awards and the prestigious Padma Shri (2005).
1. Salman Khan, 52
Salman Khan tops the rich list of Indian celebrities for the second time in a row. In his Indian cinema career of over 30 years, 12 of his films have accumulated over Rs 1 billion. He is also a stage performer, television show host and has a film production company. He also has an active non profit organisation called 'Being Human.' He also endorses several brands.
