According to the finance ministry, 1,71,503 e-way bills were successfully generated by between 0:00 and 17:00 on the 1st of April.

E-way bill system, which was rolled out yesterday, is a requirement for businesses and transporters to produce e-way bill online using the portal to transport goods over Rs 50,000 from one state to another.

Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has developed the IT backbone for the GST regime. According to the finance ministry, 19,796, who are not registered under GST, are enrolled in the e-way bill portal.

Karnataka is the only state that generates e-way bill for intra-state movement, that is for moving goods within the state.

The e-way bill was introduced on February 1st but faced several glitches, leading to a hold on its implementation. The platform was then improved to handle a load of as many as 75 lakh interstate bills.
