A release by the railways ministry today said that Chandrapur and Ballarshah railway stations are the most beautiful railway stations and have stood as winners in the in-house station beautification contest. In the second spot are Madhubani station of Bihar and Tamil Nadu's Madurai station while the third winner in the contest is shared by three railway stations namely Gandhidham in Gujarat, Kota in Rajasthan and Secunderabad in Telengana.

Chandrapur and Ballarshah railway stations have been beautified with sculptures, paintings and murals from the wildlife at the Tadoda National Park as well as local tribal art. Bihar's Madubani features artwork of local artisans and Madurai station has on its walls scenes that depict local culture.
The first price winner will be awarded with a sum of Rs. 10 lakh while first and second runner up will be provided Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 3 lakhs each. The beautification project was to make railways more attractive and welcoming.
