Reserved Ladies Coaches to be Placed in the Centre in Trains
Indian Railways may place the coach reserved especially for women in the middle instead of the rear end in suburban and long distance trains, according to PTI sources.
The centre coach instead of the rear end will be reserved for women (also called ladies coach) and painted in a different colour, according to PTI sources.
It will be implemented in suburban trains as well as long-distance ones. This move will reportedly be made to mark 2018 as the year for the security of women.
Additionally, the coaches will have CCTV cameras installed as an extra security measure and windows will be covered with wired meshes.
A committee formed to monitor the implementation of plans for safety and security of women travelling on trains are looking for suggestions from railway zones to finalise this decision reported PTI.
Though the colour of the coach has not been finalised, reports suggest that it will be pink- the universal colour associated with the female sex.
The inclusion of female staff for ticket checking and RPF personnel has also been decided, according to PTI sources.
Currently, every 3 out of 100 railway stations are managed by women. The committee intends to increase that ratio too.
Separate toilets and changing rooms for women in trains and stations may also be included in the Indian railway infrastructure upgradation agenda.
