The Indian Railways have introduced a new mobile application to help travellers book and cancel unreserved tickets, issue and renew season and platform tickets, check and load R-wallet balance and maintain user profile management along with booking history.

In order to promote digitalization and cashless economy, the railway department through its Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has developed a mobile-based application 'utsonmobile'.

The 'utsonmobile' app is available free of cost for Android and Windows operating systems on smartphones through Google Play Store or Windows store.

"Upon successful registration, Railway Wallet (R-Wallet) will be created automatically with zero balance to the passenger. There will be no extra cost for creating R-Wallet," said the press statement released by Indian Railways. The R-Wallet can be recharged either at any of the UTS counter or through recharge option available on www.utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in. You cannot, however, book an advance ticket as the app only allows booking for the current date.

The app allows you to book both paper and paperless tickets. One can also book platform tickets using the app. Paperless tickets require GPS enabled smartphones and these tickets cannot be cancelled. You can use the 'Show Ticket' option on the app for your travel.

The paper ticket can be printed out from any of the ATVM at the boarding station by entering his/her registered mobile number and booking ID.
