The Indian Railways had launched a new website for its e-ticketing and catering arm IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) at the end of May as a beta-test version. After positive feedback, in mid-June, the department switched to the new gateway completely. Here are a few features that IRCTC has added to its website to improve the travel experience.

1. Checking ticket availability without logging in

We all need to just check for ticket availability before we plan a trip or if we wish to go suddenly on a holiday. The new website allows you to check the availability of tickets without having to login into your IRCTC account in case you do not have the details handy with you. You will, however, need to login if you wish to book the ticket.

2. Transaction history

The new website has 'my transactions' option for your account that lets you go back and check the date and timing of your booking already. More importantly, if you misplace your train ticket after your journey, you can get it under the 'completed journey' option to reprint the ticket to apply for your leave travel concessions.

3. Vikalp

Vikalp feature was applicable much before the launch of the new website. It allows waiting list passengers to opt a maximum of 7 alternate trains to their destination. The new website, however, allows the user to choose the option from booked history and also allows changing the boarding point.

4. Ticket confirmation prediction

The new IRCTC website allows users to predict the chances of getting a confirmed ticket, if they find themselves with a wait list or RAC ticket. The algorithm used by the feature tracks historical data from the past 2 years to helps you decide if you should opt for an alternate train or Vikalp scheme.

5. Filter for categories

If you wish to search trains destination wise, type-of-train wise, quota wise or timing, you can now do it with the new IRCTC website to make it easier for you to plan your journey. Additionally, details like train number, train name, arrival timing, departure timing, distance between originating and destination station is all available on a single screen.

6. Font size

You can change the font size of the text displayed on the website, this is especially helpful if for those with eye-sight issues.

7. Seamless Transition

The new update allows you to seamlessly switch between your mobile phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop.
