In a bid to provide ease to Indian Railways passengers, it has been decided that soft copies of Aadhaar and driving license if maintained in DigiLocker will now be accepted as valid ID proof.

A missive has been sent to all zonal principal chief commercial managers that the above specified IDs on such service will be henceforth accepted as valid proof of identity of a passenger. The order released by the national transported said, "If a passenger shows Aadhaar or driving licence from the 'issued documents' section by logging into his DigiLocker account, the same should be considered as valid proof of identity".

Also, it made a clarification that the documents uploaded by the passengers themselves in the uploaded documents sections shall not be deemed as a valid proof of identity.

DigiLocker is a government run digital storage service which allows Indian citizens to store some of the important documents on cloud.

The DigiLocker which forms the part of the Digital India drive of the Narendra Modi government can store Aadhaar and driving licenses in digital format. Also PAN and now CBSE is providing mark-sheets in digital format to be integrated with DigiLocker.
