June WPI Inflation Hits 54-Month High Of 5.77%
The wholesale price inflation index indicated by WPI has hit a peak of 4-year high in the June month to 5.77% with a substantial hike in comparison to a WPI figure of 4.43% reported for the month of May.
In the same month, in the year ago period, the WPI stood at 0.9%.
The higher WPI figure, which in the previous month leapfrogged 15-month high by recording 4.43%, is primarily attributed to increase in the prices of fuel, food and manufactured products.
As per estimates, the inflation number for the June month was pegged at 4.93% but came in way higher.
Primary articles that have a weightage of 22.62% increased in prices from 3.16% earlier to 5.3%. Food inflation also increase month on month to 1.56% as against the previous 1.12%.
Fuel and power inflation also stood higher at 16.18% vs 11.22%.
On a month on month basis, wholesale prices increased by 1.1% in comparison to 0.9% increase in the month of May.
