As per one of the reports, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has allowed assesses to file online income tax returns without quoting of their Aadhaar number.
Now Filing Of Income Tax Return Possible Without Aadhaar
On July 24, the Delhi High Court asked the Central Board of Direct Taxes to provide an "opt-out" option on its website such that people without Aadhaar card or those not willing to disclose their Aadhaar, a 12-digit biometric-based unique identification number, can also file their income tax returns online.
The income tax department's website for e-filing of tax return till August 2 required one's aadhaar for filing of ITR.
Earlier, assesses were mandatorily required to quote their aadhaar while filing of Income tax return. But as per the report, one of the petitioners in the case Jayshree Satpute was able to file her income tax return on the website without furnishing her Aadhaar details.
